07/06/2003: "Everything Works?"

Everything that I have tried so far works fine. Why can't I access my DNS servers? I can find areas in the "Control Panels" where things like subdomains and domain pointing are addressed but they don't work. That's OK because these are things that one handles through DNS and I have my own DNS servers. I have a link to Telnet to a secure shell access. I used it to debug my perl scripts. I have a lot to do, I'll just open my first support ticket and ask a few questions. My conversation follows:

Subject : Features - where are they?

Hi:

I have a new account and I don't know what has to be turned on manually for my account to supply the features that come with [my account] vs any other type of account and I know you guys are making a lot of changes on the fly, but here goes:

1. I can't find the ns1(2).yourdomain.com access anywhere on the panels.
2. I can't setup a subdomain though I can find it in the panels.
3. I can't setup a domain pointer though I can find it in the panels.
4. I have four Greymatter Blogs on my sites. My versions of the scripts are tested on IIS and UNIX and are pointed to the right path to Perl, per your online manual, but I get 500 server/config errors both in and out of the cgi-bin. Do you have to make Perl or CGI available by request? Can't I run Perl scripts with a .cgi extension with your setup?

I consider these to be non billable set up issues. If you (support) think otherwise please bounce these questions to sales and I'll get some input from them next week. Have a good 4th.

Hi Cliff,

1.I didnot understand this part of your query
2.You can set up subdomains via your control panel. It will start working in a couple of hours as I had setup a catch all for your domain name now.
3.For parkings and multihostings, you will need to open a ticket with us.
4.Give me the links for those four blogs.Usually these sort of errors are due to permissions problems after uploading to the sites.

Happy Independence day to you too :).

Lijoe

Lijoe:

What I mean by question #1 is that I can't find access to the DSN servers:

ns1.awesomelyactive.com and ns2.awesomelyactive.com

in the panels. How do I get at them? I would have thought that is how I would set up parking and multi hosting, subdomains two for that matter.

You were right about the blogs, by the way, it was a permissions problem and I have it fixed. Thanks.

Hi Cliff,

What do you require now? Setting up subdomains can be done via your control panel and you don't need your nameservers for that. For setting up parked/multihosted domains, please open a new support ticket with the domain names and we shall set them up for you.

Veena

Veena:

The web page describing features available with [my] plan contains:

-Your own name servers
NS.Your_Site.com
NS2.Your_Site.com

What I require now is to know how to access them since I can't find access to them on the panels? "Your own name servers" implies, to me, that I can maintain my own DNS and do whatever I dream up. Please cut to the chase.

Hello,

I checked and found that the domain is set up in our zone files with our name servers. However since you require your own name servers, I shall contact our sales team, and get two IP addresses assigned to your name servers. Then you can have those name servers registered with that IP address at the name registrar.
Please do hold on.

Thank you,

Susy

Susy:

Thanks, take your time. I have my hands pretty full right now just getting my stuff up and running but I think it's a good idea to get any issues resolved as they arise. I will wait to hear from you. Thanks again.

Happy,
Cliff
