07/10/2003: "Rain Rain, Go Away"

It has been hot in Chicago and has rained every day since before the forth of July. Here in Michigan, it's cool, but still rainy. I mean soaking rain, all day long. What do the farmers say?

Always something, that's what the farmers say! Bitching about the weather has been giving people, otherwise incapable of conversation, something to say since the dawn of civilization. And, if civilization means something over your head, it was probably worse in the predawn. Farmers, however, have honed bitching about the weather into an art form. That's not fair, their butts depend on the weather. That may be, but as long as men go to sea in ships, farmers will sound like a bunch of whiners to me.
