07/16/2003: "DNS Windup"
After every "support" trick in the book I'm still here and wondering what the hell is going on. Sales "tries" by phone and cops to support. I close my ticket and open a new one called DNS problem rather than "new account, sales" and get unfortunate but final results.
+ + + Client + + + : 2003-07-16 / 09:44:26 Hi: I have been out of town so this ticket has been sitting open for a week or so. I have DNS servers: ns1.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.56.148 ns2.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.71.223 I want to access them. SSH using my domain login and password gives me access denied. I called and sales "reset" them but I get the same results. Please advise.
Cliff - - - Tech - - - : Justin 2003-07-16 / 09:54:37 You do not use your domain username as your access. The password is the same but you SSH into your domain name or IP. Hope this helps.
i.e. ( ssh root@IPAddress ) then it will ask for a password. Your password
Regards, Justin + + + Client + + + : 2003-07-16 / 10:21:57 Ticket closed by client!
After a rest, I'm so patient I'm going to open a new ticket and try again.
Subject : Access denied + + + Client + + + : 2003-07-16 / 10:22:11 Hi: I am trying to access my DNS servers:
ns1.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.56.148 ns2.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.71.223
using SSH with the same account name and password that works for my domain and I get "access denied" I called sales and they "reset" them but this did not help. Please advise.
Cliff - - - Tech - - - : Masood 2003-07-16 / 10:32:13 How are you trying to access your DNS servers? Your dns servers are not available for ssh.
Regards, Masood + + + Client + + + : 2003-07-16 / 10:59:52 Hi: I have closed support ticket 2003089 after asking how to access my DNS servers in every way I could think of, so, don't ask me, please, just tell me how to access my DNS servers. If you are confused about what I want to know please review ticket 2003089. Thanks, Cliff
- - - Tech - - - : Susy 2003-07-16 / 11:11:42 Hello, I was checking through that old ticket and this is what I found that Les had told you. * Currently clients cannot manage their DNS zones on our DNS servers. If you need records edited, added, or modifed please let us know and the technicians are happy to help. * When you requested for ssh access we had enabled shell access for your account on our shared server. * Telnet is disabled on all our shared and semi-dedicated servers for security reasons. I have re-enabled shell access on your account. ** Shell access had been enabled for the account awesomelyactive.com. Please do get back to me if you need to make any changes to the dns records. I shall be glad to do it for you.
Thank you, Regards, Susy. - - - Tech - - - : Masood 2003-07-16 / 11:13:26 I found this in the other ticket:
"The web page describing features available with the reseller plan contains:
-Your own name servers NS.Your_Site.com NS2.Your_Site.com
What I require now is to know how to access them since I can't find access to them on the panels? "Your own name servers" implies, to me, that I can maintain my own DNS and do whatever I dream up. Please cut to the chase."
Looks like you are under the impression that we will give you two servers for name servers. That is not the case. Your own name servers means that two IP addresses are assigned to your domain name:
ns1.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.56.148 ns2.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.71.223
and you can use them for your and your client domain names instead of our name servers. If you want to have your own physically name servers, you will need to get a Dedicated Server.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
Regards, Masood + + + Client + + + : 2003-07-16 / 13:29:07 Susy:
I am referring to you directly because I am tired of the run around and I hope that "admin" means that you are the supervisor. I believe that everyone who looked at my support ticket knew that I thought I had "my own DNS servers" as listed in the features of the reseller accounts and you have been wasting my time rather than giving me a straight answer. I am now clear about DNS servers not really being DNS servers but I am not clear about what I do have that is called:
ns1.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.56.148 ns2.awesomelyactive.com 66.227.71.223
Where do these IP's point and what can I do with them?
Also, what can I offer my resold clients as available features that are not just features that sound like something they want? And, if I am on a time schedule with a development client, how long will it take me to find out if something really exists or not just by asking support?
Cliff - - - Tech - - - : Susy 2003-07-16 / 13:38:34 Hello, I am really sorry about the confusion caused on account of all this. I shall try to explain the same in very simple words. ( We are all support admins here who are managing and making sure that all your servers are running with no problems at all.)
We have two main name servers where all the dns zone files for the domains are hosted. These are the name servers which we assign to all our clients : ns.jaguarpc.net and ns2.jaguarpc.net ( which are the same as ns.nocdirect.com and ns2.nocdirect.com )
We have clients on dedicated as well as shared servers. On dedictaed servers, they can have the named running and there they will have the ability to modify any of the zone files and name servers at their convenience. However there are resellers on our shared servers who donot need transparency with their clients. They request for their own name servers for the same. These name servers are not seperate servers set up. These two IP addresses will be resolving to our name servers as listed above. Two dedicated IP addresses on our primary and secondary name servers which protects your identity and doesnot reveal the fact that you are a reseller.
If you have any support queries please do open a support request. Our support team shall get abck to you asap. Also we do have 24*7 technical support which ensures that all your support requests are handled with the maximum efficiency and without the slightest delay. Have a nice day! Thank you, Regards, Susy.
