09/18/2003: "Mull It Over"
I want to tell you about the funniest web site I've seen in a long time. It's run and maintained by people who are obsessed with a hairdo called the Mullet. From the web site: "The term Mullet(hair context obviously) traces back to the 1967 prison film Cool Hand Luke, starring Paul Newman and George Kennedy, in which Kennedy's character refers to Southern men with long hair as "Mullet Heads." Common names for the mullet include (but are not limited to) : The Ape Drape. The Tennessee Waterfall. The 10/90 (the proportion of hair in front to hair in back). The Mud Flap. 7 (shape of the #) The Long Island Ice Teased. Business on Top-Party Out Back. Achy-Breaky-Big Mistakey. Yep-Nope". Click more.. below.
The web site has contributors called Mullet Hunters who stalk their prey, Mullet wearers, with cameras, usually following a snap and run policy. These pictures of then submitted to the web site; the Mullets are named and published with bios alongside. How do you name of mullet? Again, from the web site: "When there is a mullet title with a "ullet" attached to the end, pronounce it "YOU LETT". For example, "Flattopullet" would be pronounced as flat top you let." If, on the other hand blah blah. For example, Latino's Mullets are called Mullatinos, infants are Infantullets, and a white guy with a Mohawk sporting a tail has an Anglo Mullhawk.
The homepage of the site contains a warning, red, in large font followed by this explanation, "This a hard-core mullet page. MulletJunky was designed for the above-average mullet enthusiast. This is not intended for people who think mullets are funny in a "Ha-Ha" way . To a true mullet connoisseur, the mullet is not viewed as just a haircut. It's a phenomenon...a culture...a rare breed that can transform interest and curiosity into obsession."
Don't miss this site. I'll give you a link that will open in a separate window. Bookmark this puppy and go back when you have plenty of time and could use a mood enhancer. This will work for you: www.mulletjunky.com.
