10/09/2003: "A Little Dazed"
We're here in Michigan doing the big "fall colors" and close for the summer Columbus Day weekend. We drove up last night, and though it's after lunchtime here, I still feel a little dazed, maybe because of the drive or the arrival celebration afterward. But, it's warm. Radio from Traverse City calls the high-temperature pushing 80 degrees for the high with tonights low in the '50s. Not bad. This could be one of those really great weekends I was telling you about. Anyway, we have high hopes, but we're not taking chances. We located and tested electric blankets for all the beds we'll be using, just in case. I'm going to stash about a ton of firewood on the porch, where it can't get wet no matter what happens. It's kind of like carrying an umbrella. Then, we're going to push off for town to get some gas for the boat and have an ultra late lunch and a hurricane or two. That should keep us stoked against the strong probability of not having dinner until about 10:00 tonight.
We will be meeting a plane about 8:30 this evening, and we're looking for drivers to arrive anytime after 7:00, and possibly as late as 9:00. Then, the party will begin and we will be ready.
