01/09/2004: "Friday Night"
Friday night is movie night, but this week, thanks to our local public library, the evening's entertainment will include alcoholic beverages, smoking, pausing for bathroom breaks and trips to the kitchen, all without the normal requisite dependence on the video store's selection of last year's movies. Click more.. below.
What's available? Well, you can get last years movies on DVD, we got Matrix Reloaded ($1.00 for a week), but the real deal at our library is TV series on DVD or VHS. Great British stuff like The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Enemy at the Door (hit drama about the German occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII), and the venerable Dr. Who. No commercials or PBS begging breaks, to say nothing of the pause button; all free allowing you to spend your money on boxed sets of Alien Series or Lord of the Rings Director's Cuts.
Not into British TV? How about Buffy, The Sopranos, Alias, or Farscape? Again free, on DVD and with enough selection that you can easily limit yourself to "season 1" when most series had edge and freshness. It's the real deal, and while you're there, don't forget about books on tape or CD. Your commute or busy work around the house will take on a whole new flavor.
