04/21/2004: "Coke to Pepsi"

Pepsi has new "patriotic" cans coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building and the Pledge of Allegiance on them. For some reason, however, Pepsi left out the two BIG little words on the pledge, "Under God." Don't they know that only God can change Coke to Pepsi? Click more.. below.

Pepsi said they didn't want to offend anyone. Oops, you blew it! Anyone who would be moved to buy more Pepsi because of a patriotic can would seem to me to be the type of person most put off by the soft drink manufacturers taking such a stand. And anyone who would agree that "Under God" should be removed from the pledge would be offended by a patriotic can out of the gate because of anti-war sentiment.

I got an email today from the right of center saying, "Pepsi said they did not want to offend anyone. If this is true, then we don't want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate office. So if we don't buy any Pepsi product, they will not be offended when they don't receive our money that has the words "In God We Trust" on it." Ouch! What about the left? Well, when did you last hear a newsperson, college professor, or artist refer to him/herself as a patriot?

Do the people at Pepsi pay money for advertising? My advice is to drink beer.
