Thor's Bummer
I stopped by Heyerdahl's Cafe again last week, this time with my beloved, (see entry: Konk Tiki) and got the skinny. It was 6 PM local time, in Bridgeman, Michigan, so we passed on the Swedish pancakes and ordered from the dinner menu. Service was slow though the place was not crowded and I stood outside with my iced tea and smoked. Click more..below.

Al Writes
A blind man enters a Ladies Bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a drink. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?" The bar immediately becomes absolutely quiet. In a very deep, husky voice the woman next to the blind man says, "Before you tell that joke, you should know a few things:
1) the bartender is blonde
2) the bouncer is blonde
3) I'm 6 feet tall, 200 lbs., blonde, with a black belt in karate
4) The woman sitting next to me is blonde and she is a weightlifter
5) the lady to your right is a blonde and a pro wrestler.
Think about it seriously, Mister. You still wanna tell that joke?"
The blind guy says, "Nah, ....not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times...."

Stolen Monitor
I knew the LCD flat screens were driving the price of CRT monitors down, but this is ridiculous. I bought a 19 inch ViewSonic A90f+ CRT monitor, for $200 flat, today at Best Buy in Downers Grove. Killer! There is a bit of a special story behind my purchase, but it amazes me that just walking in off the street, you can buy a high-quality, 19 inch CRT monitor for $229. If you want to hear my story, click more..below.

Emily's Lost Raspberry Pie
This is not a process, like lost wax casting, but the recreation of a lost recipe for Raspberry Pie.

First obtained verbally, from a female employee at a "pick your own" raspberry farm, this hastily scribbled recipe has hung on the crowded bulletin board at our summer digs in Michigan for at least seven years, and now it's gone. Vacationing Raspberry Pie fans believed that because we loved the recipe, and pinned it carefully back up after each use, that it was safe. Alas, we were wrong.

The following is in response to Emily's recorded plea.

Engineering Demo
Our new engineering company demo site is up at Awesomely Active Web Design. It's an all flash site and designed to provide a lower cost solution for engineering firms since the basic framework is already in place. And, it has a "document repository" and a couple of blogs behind a password as an introductory intranet. Click more.. below.

Irish Whiskey
Do you like Irish Whiskey? I was introduced to a new label recently. It's very good and sells for a reasonable price. Powers Gold Label, from John Power & Son, established 1791, in Dublin. Click more.. below.

New Home!
This Blog now has a home of it's own. What? Look at the address bar, numb nuts, Cliff's Notes is no longer a part of the Awesomely Active Web Design site. And, due to the magic of redirection, you didn't know it, but you got here anyway. Update your bookmarks/favorites and read on.

DNS Windup
After every "support" trick in the book I'm still here and wondering what the hell is going on. Sales "tries" by phone and cops to support. I close my ticket and open a new one called DNS problem rather than "new account, sales" and get unfortunate but final results.

Your Sister, Revisited
How's your Sister? This consistently productive icebreaker and conversational gambit, credited to the late Steve Allen, will fall flat or lead to disappointing results in any of the following circumstances:

1. When women are present or within hearing.
2. When the intended listener is significantly larger or faster than you are.
3. When the intended listener is your boss, your client, or anyone with whom you have a financially dependent relationship.

You have something new to say?

Rain Rain, Go Away
It has been hot in Chicago and has rained every day since before the forth of July. Here in Michigan, it's cool, but still rainy. I mean soaking rain, all day long. What do the farmers say?

Konk Tiki, Thor
Heyerdahl's Cafe, located on Red Arrow Highway, in Bridgeman, Michigan, has been serving Scandinavian "soul food" to all those who care enough since 1926. I stopped there this morning with my lovely and Swedish mother-in-law for Swedish Pancakes and Lingonberries and what a let down. Let me tell you about it.

More DNS Angst
Now I can't manage my zones on their DNS servers but they have re-enabled my shell access. What about MY DNS servers. I need a break, I'm sure I can find something more productive to do than get the run around from these guys.

DNS Angst
How do I access my DNS servers? Lijoe doesn't understand the question, Veena tells me I don't need DNS servers, and Susy tells me I don't have any DNS servers, but she will ask sales if they will give them to me. This morning I get the names and IP's of my DNS servers but no further information. I check my Awesome site "control panels" and they have changed, but there is still no reference to my DNS management. And, I have lost Shell Access. Arrggg! Conversation follows:

Everything Works?
Everything that I have tried so far works fine. Why can't I access my DNS servers? I can find areas in the "Control Panels" where things like subdomains and domain pointing are addressed but they don't work. That's OK because these are things that one handles through DNS and I have my own DNS servers. I have a link to Telnet to a secure shell access. I used it to debug my perl scripts. I have a lot to do, I'll just open my first support ticket and ask a few questions. My conversation follows:

Apocalypses Now
Do you remember Martin Sheen doing his psycho army hitman character in Apocalypses Now? The close-ups in the boat, traveling upriver, while he poured endlessly over the mysterious Colonel's dossier, do you remember how he just ran sweat? I do. He looked like he had just popped up out of a pool without blinking or shaking the water off.

July
July, the seventh month of the year, has 31 days. It was the fifth month in the early Roman calendar. It was the month in which Roman statesman Julius Caesar was born. In 44 BC, the second year of the Julian calendar, the Senate proposed that the name of the month Quintilis be changed to Julius (July), in honour of Julius Caesar.
